Slave Zero X is a premium action game from Poppy Works and Ziggurat, putting players in control of a secret warrior who merged with a stolen mech prototype, you go across city streets to enemy factories in order to bring an end to this tyranny.
Slave Zero X does a good treatment of the bygone side-scrolling hack-and-slash video game. Its retro sensibilities make it a great prequel to the 1999 Slave Zero. Be warned of its steep late-game difficulty, requiring combo timings and precise dodging. It will resonate with fans of games like Strider and Guilty Gear X.
Awesome fights in a post-apocalypse world
Both Slave Zero X, and its inspiration and sequel Slave Zero, revolve around the order known as The Guardians and their struggle against the reign of tyranny perpetuated by the Sovereign Khan and his army of Slaves — a horrific mix of metal and flesh. As Shou, you wield the same human-machine monstrosity to become the last weapon in this war. This premise ties closely to the original game.
As a stylish 2.5D hack-and-slash, it is a definite improvement over the arcade games of the previous decades. Here, you get to connect your sword slashes, explosives, dashes, and more to create multi-hit combos. You can also switch targets and juggle enemies in the air, opening more combat possibilities. Every level hits a climax with one-on-one battles with uniquely designed bosses.
Another point to take note of is the soundtrack, which features songs suitable for the game’s changing set designs. As mentioned, the game is quite serious in its difficulty progression.
